A number of years ago Special Forces wanted a Paratrooper Badge approved for SF qualified personnel. The above badge was designed and submitted in the 1980's as a proposed Special Forces Qualification Badge. It was rejected, and the Special Forces tab was instituted as the new Special Forces Qualification insignia in 1983.
